Doris Pohl

Dr. Pohl taught applied piano at Washington University and Webster University in St. Louis, and for many years was a freelance teacher, performer and adjudicator. A native of Tennessee she was educated at Berea College, Berea, Kentucky receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. She went on to earn a Master of Music in piano performance from Northwestern University; and a Ph.D. in Music with an emphasis in performance from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

 

While a student at Berea College, Dr. Pohl studied piano with Margaret Allen. Mrs. Allen started the Windswept Music Workshop, originally established for the benefit of Kentucky piano teachers, while Pohl was her student. Pohl attended the first Windswept in 1951. She was remained associated with Windswept as it grew serving on the facutly for many years teaching body tuning, leading the advanced classes, and teaching applications to piano literature.

Beloved wife of the late Robert A. Pohl. Loving mother of Laura (Jeff) Waller, David (Beth) Reynolds, Bobby Pohl, Guy (Patty) Pohl, Christy Pohl and Jeff (Brenda) Pohl. Dearest grandmother of Rebecca, and Jacob Waller, Magen, Kate and Allie Reynolds, Robbie (Lexie) Pohl, Chelsea (Kevin) Robertson, and Alex Pohl (fiancé Brandon), Guy (Jennifer), Grant (Brooke) and Emily Augenstein, Casey (Mary) and Mercedes Pohl; great-grandmother of 16. Dear sister of Shirley (Larry) Atkins and the late Mary (the late Harry) Weems.

 

Services: Memorial Service 2:00 p.m., May 21, 2016 in the Theater at Friendship Village, 15201 Olive Blvd., Chesterfield, MO 63017.
